If you don’t have enough surprises and adventure in your life, and you are a Romanian citizen, listen to the Romanian Prime Minister: return home.
The first few months might seem somewhat tame, but surprises will soon come, don’t worry. First, your accounts will be frozen. That doesn’t mean that someone would bother to let you know why. If you think of asking questions, you need to stay strong. You will get only contradictory answers. If you ask for written documents, forget it. You are denied. After several trips to the other end of the town, you will finally find out that even if you lived abroad for other a decade, you should still have paid health tax in Romania for instance. So what if you visited the country only once and needed medical care, but the Canadian health system had to pay for it? So what if not even an emergency consult was offered to you, as a courtesy for being a Romanian citizen? That doesn’t mean that you were exempt for paying a few thousands. You are Romanian after all, and you should have contributed to the wealth of… Who? But don’t fear. That’s not the end. You will also find out that you should have paid taxes on fictive revenue as well. So what if you weren’t in the country? So what if, at a certain moment in time, you didn’t have the right to issue a receipt? Be brave, suck it up and pay, even though it means the equivalent of over 10,000 Canadian dollars. What’s the alternative? Spending days in fruitless talks, with the final answer always being: Just go to court if you don’t like it. Well, you might want to go to court, but if they don’t give you any papers…. What can you prove? And don’t forget, you have only 15 days to do it. If you don’t sue in that period of time…. You have to pay. Do you notice a specific leitmotiv here? You just have to pay…. You can submit written requests. That is true. You are supposed to get an answer within 30 days – well beyond the 15 days, you are entitled to… But once more, don’t worry. You won’t get a thing, even after 2 months. And you still have to pay. With your accounts frozen and the money taken unwillingly, you cannot do anything else, but pay. Whether you want it or not. Should I welcome you to Romania? What do you think, Romanian Prime Minister?
